Better At Home
Elders nourish communities with wisdom rooted in the past; Better at Home nurtures their future by providing support to continue living vibrantly on their own terms. By uplifting those whose guidance shaped our heritage, we strengthen the bonds between generations and honour the gifts Elders still have to give.
Honoring Elders with care in the Stō:lō Territory
The Better at Home program provides free assistance to First Nations Elders aged 55+ living on-reserve within the traditional Stō:lō territory. Tailored to each Elder’s unique needs and schedule, Better at Home offers non-medical support with daily tasks that enable Elders to continue living comfortably and independently in their own homes.
Our services include transportation, yard work, light housekeeping, minor home repairs, snow removal and friendly visits. By making these vital supports accessible at no cost, Better at Home empowers Elders to maintain connections to community and thrive within the homes they love.
Operating in First Nations communities across the Stō:lō territory, Better at Home prioritizes serving Elders most at risk for relocation. This uplifting care sustains quality of life and honours the Elders whose wisdom nourished their people.
Better at Home welcomes input on improving services and relies on dedicated volunteers to uphold this empowering program. Community members wishing to honour Elders through service are encouraged to get involved.
By nurturing Elders’ independence and belonging, Better at Home recognizes the irreplaceable value they bring to the Stō:lō people. Uplifting those who came before sustains culture, tradition, and community for generations to come.
