Seabird Island Band provides select educational scholarships and incentives for members pursuing post-secondary studies. These financial awards support academic success and are granted annually based on funding availability and eligibility.

Honour Roll Incentive Award
Seabird Island’s Honour Roll Incentives are presented each June at our Annual Education Awards Ceremony.
These financial awards go to Band Member students who have demonstrated academic excellence and commitment. By celebrating their achievements among community, we aim to inspire youth that dedication reaps rewards.

Education Milestone Achievement Awards
Seabird Island offers financial awards to recognize and honor member students upon successful completion of education milestones. Original institution documents must be presented to access incentives.
Certificate Programs
Up to $500
Diploma Programs
Up to $1,000
Bachelor's Degrees
Up to $2,000
Master's Degrees
Up to $3,000
PhD Degrees
Up to $4,000
Professional Degrees
Up to $4,000
To Access these incentives students must present an original institution document.
Faxed letters and transcripts will not be accepted. Students may only receive each incentive once in their lifetime.
Supporting Academic Journeys
This scholarship provides up to $3,500 per year (awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee based on funding and applicants) to one full-time Band Member student pursuing specific programs of study.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled full-time in a diploma or degree program in commerce, public/business administration, physical sciences, math, computer science, forestry, or engineering.
- Completed minimum one year of studies with a B+ average or above.
- Returning to full-time studies in the upcoming fall semester.
- Good academic standing with the institution and Band (no outstanding debt/loans).
To Apply:
- Submit a letter detailing your academic achievements.
- Include official transcript in a sealed envelope.
- Send to the Education Coordinator by July 31st.
- Applications are reviewed by the Education Committee.
- Selected recipient will be notified by August 31st.
- Students may receive this scholarship only once.

This one-time incentive provides up to $1,500 (awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee) to full-time Band Member students entering their second year or completing a post-graduate degree program.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled full-time or completing a post-graduate program.
- Maintained a B+ average or above.
- Good standing with the Band (no outstanding debt/loans).
To Apply:
- Submit letter detailing your program of study.
- Include official transcript in a sealed envelope.
- Send to the Education Coordinator by July 31st.
- Applications are reviewed by the Education Committee.
- Selected recipients will be notified by August 31st.
- Students may receive this incentive only once.

This scholarship provides up to $200 per student (maximum $1000 total/year) to full-time Band Member students demonstrating academic excellence. Awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled full-time in a Level 1 or 2 program.
- Returning to studies or completed a program.
- Maintained a B+ average or above.
- Good standing with the Band (no outstanding debt/loans).
To Apply:
- Submit letter detailing your program and achievements.
- Include official transcript in sealed envelope.
- Send to the Education Coordinator by July 31st.
- Applications reviewed by Education Committee.
- Selected recipients notified by August 31st.

- Send copy of your credential once received.
- Materials due by July 31st.

Elementary/Secondary In-School Incentives
The Education Committee provides the following incentives for Band Member students in Grades K-12, understanding that funding is limited based on the previous year’s nominal roll. Eligibility requirements ensure fair distribution of available funds.

Grade 12 Graduation Incentive – $100
This one-time incentive honors Grade 12 students upon successful completion.
Eligibility:
- Completed Grade 12.
- Listed on current year Nominal Roll.
- Only provided once in lifetime.

Grade 12 Graduation Supplement – $200
This supplemental incentive helps cover graduation costs for Grade 12 students completing their Dogwood Diploma.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Successfully completed Grade 12.
- Listed on the current year Nominal Roll.
- Only provided once in lifetime.

Financial incentives awarded each term to students achieving academic excellence or effort:
- “A” Honor Roll – $225/year
- “B” Honor Roll – $200/year
- Effort Honor Roll – $175/year
Eligibility Requirements:
- Listed on current Nominal Roll Report
- Attained A’s, B’s, or Effort Honor Roll each term
- Only one incentive per term

School Supplies and Student Allowance
School Supplies:
The School Supply Allowance is provided at the beginning of each school year. Students must meet these funding qualifications:
- Reside within the Seabird Island Community;
- Will be attending a school outside the Seabird Island Community (SICS provides school supplies to all their students)
- Enrolled in studies between Kindergarten to grade 12, or pursuing adult dogwood and under the age of 21.
*Please drop-off the completed form at Seabird Island Band office attention to the Director of Education or the highschool or email to eatoedu@seabirdisland.ca.
Cheques need to be picked up from the band office reception and signed out by students age 13 and up. Cheques for students 12 and under will be picked up and signed out by parents only. Should direct deposit be preferred, please ensure the direct deposit form is completed and attached to your supply allowance form.
Student Allowance:
The student allowance is for the purchase of personal items not covered under the ancillary program. Although INAC funds a monthly allowance for First Nations students in Grades 8 through 12, the Education Committee recommended an allowance to students in Grade 7 through 12.
- Students need to be regularly attending school. If a student withdraws from school they are not eligible for the allowance.
Student Allowance Limits
- Allowance for students in Grade 7 through 10 is eligible for $100.00 per school year ($10.00 per school month).
- Allowance for students in Grade 11 and 12 are eligible for $200.00 per school year ($20.00 per school month).
Allowance Payment Dates
The annual student allowance limit will be distributed in portions throughout the school year; December, March, June.
Student Allowance payments will be provided through mail (ensure your current address is up to date), or band office pick-up (as needed, the student will be notified), or direct deposit (if banking information provided to eatoedu@seabirdisland.ca).
If the student is attending a school outside of Seabird Island Community or SD78, to qualify for student allowance they must complete a School District Parent Consent form and return to email eatoedu@seabirdisland.ca or drop off at band office attention to the Director of Education.
