COLD SAFETY & INCLEMENT WEATHER

SLIPS, TRIPS, AND FALLS
Walk like a penguin and use three-point contact whenever possible. Hold onto something secure as you navigate slippery surfaces.

OVEREXERTION, TWISTS, AND PULLS
When shovelling snow, pace yourself and lift smaller amounts at a time.

FOLLOW THESE SAFETY TIPS:

  1. Develop plans and procedures for cold weather, both at work and at home.
  2. Make prevention an everyday responsibility.
  3. Stay ahead of potential injuries related to cold weather events.
  4. Keep a flashlight readily available with fresh batteries.
  5. Use technology solutions, such as weather alerts or emergency apps (e.g., Alertable), to ensure safer outcomes.

HYPOTHERMIA & FROSTBITE
Limit your time outside, and dress in warm clothing and appropriate footwear.

POWER OUTAGES
Prepare ahead: know where to shelter, have a flashlight ready, and inspect alternative power and heat sources.
