Temporary Safety Protocol
Re: Band-Provided Transportation

Éy swayel Sq’ewqel Community,

Last week, we shared that a temporary mask mandate is in effect for all BC health care facilities, including Sq’ewqel (Seabird Island), due to rising cases of respiratory illnesses.

In light of the above information, and out of an abundance of caution, our Fleet Program is taking a temporary health safety measure to help protect the shxw’íyem (health) of our Elders, loved ones, clients and staff.

This means, going forward:

All passengers and drivers are required to wear a mask, while inside a Seabird vehicle.

The expectation is for this mask requirement to end by spring of 2025, as respiratory illness rates decrease.

Please know, refusal to participate in this temporary health safety measure could result in ride privileges being suspended. Exceptions may be made for stl’tl’éqeléh (young children).

We kindly encourage passengers to supply their own masks; however, disposable masks will be available.

ch’ítóle (thank you, pl.) for your máyt (help) to lower the risk of spreading respiratory illnesses.

Please reach out to Dwight Schneider, our Fleet Program Manager, if you have any questions at (604) 796-2177 or dwight.schneider@seabirdisland.ca

Ólheltchexw (respectfully),
– SIB Community Infrastructure
