BC Housing Project, Phase One (1)

Éy swayél Sq’éwqel Community,

To ensure our Community remains informed, please remember on yílà:welhát (Monday), January 20, 2025, the first phase of the BC Housing Project (BCHP) in Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island) will yíóthet (start).

Please find the building site location on the map below, outlined with red, on Pípeh:óm (Frog) Road.

The crews will not yó:ys (work) outside the daytime hours of 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM from Monday to Friday.

To avoid crew members parking road-side, a temporary parking area will be setup on Steqó:ye (Wolf) Road, as reflected with a blue outline on the map below.

Please note, all industrial traffic, such as low-beds to transport equipment, etc., will access the BCHP site via Seabird Island Road and Pípeh:óm Road.

The BCHP Phase One (1) is estimated to hílewx (finish) by August of 2026.

What is the “BC Housing Project” (BCHP)?
The first provincial housing fund in Canada to include on-reserve housing to help develop affordable rental homes.

What does “Phase One (1)” mean?
BCHP Phase One (1) will provide 34 new rental homes for our Community, including sixteen (16) apartments and six (6) townhomes, as well as twelve (12) more units specifically for our Elders.
