The Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island) Inter-government Affairs Department is committed to protecting and promoting our Aboriginal Rights and Title, it is a testament to our commitment to honouring our history, it is guided by the teachings of our Elders, and it is rooted in the values that define us as stewards of our lands.
We recognize the significance of our role in preserving and protecting our cultural heritage, our lands, our waters, and all our relations, ensuring sustainability for today and future generations. Intergovernmental Affairs works to ensure that through our relationships with one another, other Nations, and all levels of crown governments, our lands and natural resources are protected.
The Inter-Government Affairs department advocates for Seabird Island First Nation members’ Aboriginal rights and titles, aligning with UNDRIP. Through collaboration with external stakeholders and agencies, it ensures Seabirds’ participation in decision-making regarding their lands and resources. This department serves as Seabird Island’s voice in governmental arenas, asserting its rights and managing external relations. It advocates for important issues and supports Aboriginal Rights and Titles across all departments, embodying Seabird Island’s perspective for the community, clients, and partners.
